Digital Car Magazine

HotRod Magazine Homepage
I was browsing the website of Hot Rod magazine today and happened to decide that paying $15 per issue at the local newsagent (Sydney,Australia) was just too much. I thought a subscription might save me some cash. I have to hand it to the Americans they give around 50% off for subscribing, as opposed to Australian magazines that grace us with round 10% discount. The problem was still the overall cost once I had it posted. But wait there is more!!! I became curious about another option I had seen about a year ago. This is the digital subscriber option. I didn't investigate it much a year ago because I thought I need the paper in my hand to enjoy it and this is waht I have done. I now have enjoyed many car mags and have huge piles of them around the house. Now I am not really into collecting them but I seem to not be able to throw them out and I am sure I am not the only one with this problem.

So I decided tonight to give the digital version a go. Wow it cost me $10 US for 1 year with 12 issues and November issue was delivered with in seconds. Also I have been to Itunes and gotten the App for Iphone and Ipad and can read my mag anywhere. So to recap, Saved about $60, get the issue first without going to the shops, and can read on my laptop, Iphone or Ipad anywhere. Oh and no pile of mags sitting around the house.

So check out www.zinio.com or Hot Rod Magazine

Perth Street Car $8.95 AUD

www.perthstreetcar.com

I picked up this mag a few years ago at a small newsagent in Lansvale NSW quite by accident. i have say it was awesome. I have been reading custom car magazines for over 20 years and this mag will not disappoint.

Latest issue
The first thing you will notice is the magazine is taller than pretty much anything in the stand. Secondly you will casually reach over, pick it up and have to readjust the amount of muscle you are using. This book is big. It does  only come out 4 times a year but it is worth the wait.

The one problem I have is that being in an Eastern state our newsagents (when you can find one that stocks it) are an issue or 2 behind. Last Friday I found an issue in a local store but it seems as that it is 2 issues behind. This is not a big deal really as the read is new to me and always great.

I suppose the only way to stop this is to move to Western Australia or subscribe which I will comment on later.

The Guts...

It would have to be said that if you had to some up the genre the mag falls in it would have to be predominately quarter mile. The west Aussies seem all about the ET and that's pretty cool. This means that there are not many trailer queens in this mag. However, out of the jams packed pages of 15 plus cars there are a few that would see less road time than many others. I also notice that most of the cars have a number plate that looks like it is there for a good reason.

The photography and magazine layout are first rate. From the first turn of the cover to the back page the layout gives you the feeling you got a bargain for you 9 bucks. The pages are jammed with info, events, ads, cars and the occasional eye candy.

Advertising....

These guys at PSC must be doing the right thing as there is no shortage of businesses wanting to display their brand in a big way. Not many of the ads are small, but maybe that's has something to do with the size of the pages you be the judges.........

Subscriptions
PSC has 3 options being $36 for WA, rest of Australia $49 and NZ $49. this is ok if you are in WA but for me to buy 4 issues cost $35.80 per year so I won't be taking the offer up, I just have to train my local newsagent.

If your are into nice cars that go fast this is a must have magazine..

Overall Score 8/10
